[history]
September 17, 2003 -- Health inspectors have written 524 tickets for violations of the city's new smoking ban, officials said yesterday.
Thirty bars and restaurants were ticketed on more than one occasion since the law took effect March 30, according to Nancy Miller, the Health Department's assistant commissioner for tobacco control. Officials said they couldn't immediately provide the names of the businesses.

These jerks are propaganda experts! It's a bunch of BS. Business owners ARE suffering, and employers are losing their jobs. I don't know how the idiot lawmakers sleep at night.

I don't know how the idiot lawmakers sleep at night. They sleep the sleep of the successfully wicked, compared to which the sleep of the Just is a trampoline in an earthquake in a hurricane.

Quite simple actually. The answer lies in the article, they lie to themselves. These people who wallow in bureaucratic liberalism (which is oxymoronic), have been raised on such lies and those lies are necessary for them to maintain their existence.
To: SheLion
It
is forcing people out of business. The lawmakers do not care because 1) they have never spent one moment in the small business world, and 2) think that there is something immoral about owning a business.
What is amazing is that New Yorkers have become so supine that they put up with this cr@p. It would not have happened 10 years ago.

Great, meanwhile women are being raped, people are being shot, robbed, and assulted.
The legal system at its finest.

Yes, but the truly dangerous must be carefully watched.
Who knows what terror some crazed cigarette smoker might perpetrate.
All of our resources must be used to bring these "criminals" to justice. Not to mention collecting some $$$.

It's been many, many years since I smoked.
I recently heard a report about a tobacco grower in the U.S. who has formed his own cigarette company, which in a few years has become a 100 Million a year business; it seems his packs sell for 1.50; big cigarette companies are crying foul because this little guy started-up after those law suits, so his overhead isn't burdened with that payout.
They interviewed the fellow, and he reminded me that the U.S.A. has the best cigarette tobacco in the world.
Man, would I love to smoke that stuff again!

They're not "experts" at all. The reality is that they are pretty inept, but they have the bully pulpit and the support of cowardly bureaucrats.
I would concentrate on identifying the "health inspectors" for purposes of banning or an early warning system for the next gin mill.
Or tar and feathers...

Do we really need a study to determine whether second-hand smoke is harmful?
If first-hand smoke is proved harmful, then does it happen that the smoker's lungs purify the exhaled, second-hand smoke such that it is no longer harmful?
And does a cigarette burning in an ashtry emit safer smoke somehow?
If so, science should investigate--perhaps there's a way to make first-hand smoke safe too.

I wrote the smoke gnatzie poem yesterday for use by property rights freepers when it seems appropriate.
Smoke Gnatzies
They buzz around your head until,
You think it will explode.
Youd like to catch them all and flush,
Theyd swirl down the commode.
They agitate, they irritate,
They just wont go away.
They want to tell you how to live,
To all of them I say.
Be gone you pest, just fly away,
My freedom you wont take.
If not for all the buzzing,
Id swear you were a snake.
But snakes are bad, and youre just sad,
So go and bug some cat.
Cause if you dont get out of here,
Theres gonna be a splat.

During a hearing at Pace University, Miller testified the ban was not hurting the city's $10 billion restaurant industry
Nancy Miller, the Health Department's assistant commissioner for tobacco control.
Can you say "liar?"
New York City - The new heart of National Socialism in the USA. Gun control, cigarette control, jackbooted kops enforcing bans on sitting on boxes, Jerry Nadler, Carolyn McCarthy, Major Owens, Hitlery Clinton, upChuckie Schemer, and now Cynthia McKinney. The majority of New Yorkers don't belong in the USA and don't deserve to be part of the USA.

Sorry, my bad - I got carried away, terrorist lovin' Cindy hasn't been given a taxpayer funded home in NYC, but in Ithaca. Still NY though and still supported by New Yorkers.

(How many of you would give up sex if sex caused cancer?) Apparently no one, or at least very few.
Cervical cancer, which the anti-smoker cartel continues to blame on smoking, has been proven to be caused by a virus that is primarily caused by sexual transmission.
So, sex does cause cancer.
